Unfortunately I don't know where f-i-l was in 1931 - I tried the US census but he didn't show up so hopefully he'll be in the Canada one. He went to Canada as a 15 year old in 1924 and back from Canada in 1936 but had been working at a school in the US too but don't know where or how long.

So I'm hoping they'll index it asap and manage to find him.

Thank you. My great aunt and her husband located. Thankfully, they lived in a very small town in SK!

Fascinating stuff. They were the only family on the block with a radio!

10.5 million searchable records now:

I think that is their initial go at indexing, using software which "reads" handwriting, and it will be improved over the course of the next few months by humans.

Here is the entry for the author L M Montgomery ("Anne of Green Gables", etc) which I found easily under her married name Macdonald:

Judging by the few entries I have looked at so far, the software seems to have done a decent job.

Thanks for the link Kite

Just clicked on it and I think I've found f-i-l - year of birth matches and Ontario where I thought he would be as I couldn't find him in the US 1930 census.

As I don't have worldwide ancestry I have to decide whether to pay £9.99 for a 2 week sub £19.99 for 4 weeks and wait until I need to do more worldwide research.
