Where has it gone?

If you choose a particular census from the 'All Record Sets' search there used to be a link at the top taking you to the address search. Now that seems to have gone and at the bottom of the search page it states:

As well as searching for a person, you can also search the 1871 census by address - ideal for tracing your house history or exploring the local history of an area.

I know there's a field in the normal search where you can put the street name in, but that doesn't work in the same way as the address search did.

Any ideas?

I'm having trouble following those instructions.

I also found this, but I still haven't found the address search form:

Here's the form that works for all censuses; took a while to find:

Oooh, thanks Mary. Now I know the address I'm looking for is missing which is probably why the family I'm looking for are also missing!!

Will be adding that page as a favourite!! :D

Thanks Mary, I was trying to find how to do that a few weeks back without success

It was much simpler a few years back as I recall, it was just on the standard search page wasn't it!

Yes, I think so Maggie.

For the last few weeks when I've used FMP I've found that if I click the Search button at the top of the dashboard, where it's sandwiched between Family Tree and 1921 Census, I would just be taken immediately to the Search All Records page, with no drop-down menu before that. This meant there was no immediate way to get to the 1939 Register or the Address search (plus a few other options I don't use so much).

Since I've been able to access the Address search (thanks Mary!), suddenly the drop-down menu has reappeared when I click the Search option on the dashboard! Very strange!

I tend to keep tabs open, in case I need to return. This sometimes mean I get old versions of a website, with attendant problems. I've been two days without internet because I didn't think to reboot my laptop :o (thanks to the lovely Aftab from Virgin for being patient with a stupid old woman!)

I bookmark all the useful things separately, e.g. each census, newspapers, etc., so I can go straight to them without going via the home page.

Image by image everything may be present but some indexed as Rd whilst others are Road or St versus Street is a major flaw. Don't get me started on the problems with the likes of Newland Street West. The transcribers think the 'Street' part is the end of the address and then create an entirely new city that never existed.

Have you tried just putting in Newland, Glen? The search is much fuzzier than it used to be, and since you get a tick once you've looked at a page, you can find what's missing and what you haven't looked at.

Or could it be that the transcriber transcribed the whole address and then the software parsed it wrongly?
