Good Morning
a day of doing nothing for me - except - trawling through my familytree
my G Grandad - my nans dad Robert Walker b 1864 Hyde Cheshire
his parents were
James Walker and Jane Allcock - Jane was born 1835 in Stockport
her parents were Joseph Allcock and Martha Coxon
so as the title states above
Martha Coxon baptised 4/8/1805 in Heaton Norris ,Stockport
father John Coxon - mother ????
I HAVEN'T GOT HER MUM - Christian name or surname ?
..............
Joseph Allcock married Martha Coxon 8-7-1833 in Cheadle

so I am trying to find Marthas mum who would be my 4 x G Grandmother - any advice hugely appreciated - thanks for reading :)
Allan
ADDED
Apologies - I have just checked my tree and I have her christian name as Martha - but no surname

This looks like her baptism:

Martha Coxon Christening (Baptism) 4 Aug 1805 Stockport John, Martha

That's a transcription from Ancestry. FMP has the image. The only additional info on the image is that they were 'of Heaton' and that Martha jr was brn May 16th.

Siblings (all same church, Stockport, St Mary)

William 15 Jul 1810 b 1 May

Christopher 30 Jul 1815

John 26 Jul 1818

The last two give John's occ as spinner.

I think there are some more with other spellings for the surname....(next post!)

You will need to see if there are two+ couples marrying with the same fornames. I have recorded the transcription spelling and if I think it's something else on the image, that too:

Samuel Cookson/Cockson? of Heaton 17 Apr 1801 b 27 Jan

James Cason of Stockport 06 Feb 1803 b 31 Dec (1802)

Marianna Cookson or Heaton 30 Aug 1812 b 30 May

I can't see Sarah 1808??

all I can say about that is we have a Marianne with an e born 1852 - so Marianna looks a very possible - what do you think ?

I can only find one marriage 1800 +/-10 for John Co*on (to cover all eventualities!) to Martha X in Cheshire.

31 Dec 1797 at Cheadle, Cheshire

John Cockson to Martha Royle (no further info on the image)

I realise the Lancs border was close to Stockport/Cheadle, so looked on Ancestry for Lancs, but no matches.

Well, as I can only see one marriage and I spelled the entry Marianna when it should have been Marianne I would say it's most likely all these entries are for the same couple.

What date do you have for Sarah in 1808? I can look more closely at the image if you have the exact date.

Findmypast has a John Cockson marrying a Martha Royle in 1797 at Cheadle, Cheshire. (Edit - snap, Merry!)

sorry - no baptism for Sarah Coxon - just b 1808 Stockport - so now I am wondering where that came from - I obviously got Marthas siblings all at once ??
so Martha Royle looks very likely - there was a John Coxon to Martha Ashby but their children were different names - that was just over the border in Derbyshire

added - I have just checked CPRDb and I didn't get Sarah from there ...puzzled now - a usual ...lol

Oh, I think Sarah comes from this census:

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/8860/images/CHSHO107_2157_2157-0657?treeid=&personid=&rc=&usePUB=true&_phsrc=psY29704&_phstart=successSource&pId=17303175

If you can't access that, she is an unmarried sister in law to Joseph Allcock on the 1851 census.

Merry

What about this one?

Martha Royle
Baptism 19 Oct 1777 Northenden, St Wilfred dau of James Royle of Sale. Born 23 Sept

Merry

There's another couple having children at Stretford whch is also near. They are another James and wife Martha, but their dau Martha is a bit older, bap 1773.

Maybe close for comfort! Pity Martha didn't live another year for the 1851 census.

You might need to try and work out if you can see a forward path for the various Marthas to see of any can be eliminated.

Merry

Possible burial:

John Coxon
b abt 1776 bur 12 Jul 1819 of Heaton Norris at Northenden, St Wilfred

I've not looked for any other spellings.
