Yes 'tis he :(

I found his baptism! Or so I thought - http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/?htx=View&r=5538&dbid=1558&iid=31280_196173-00136&fn=Henry+William&ln=Wicks&st=r&ssrc=gr_t45875_p-1172739925_g32796&pid=2092123

The trouble is, that it was on 17 March 1892, 4 months BEFORE he was born on 17th July 1893

I've looked for the death of another Henry W Wicks in 1892/3 in case a baby died and another was given the same name, but I can't see anything.

I have the feeling that I must have made some obvious mistake somewhere, and that I'll end up feeling embarrassed that I asked this :o - but I am stuck!!

Knowing this family, and given the day is the same, is there any possibility that they lied about late registration of a birth?

I can't view that baptism, only have the basic Ancestry at the moment.

Are the parents names the same on the baptism as on the birth cert? The same with the fathers occupation if it's noted?

Thanks Phoenix- I simply don't know!! _ I can't think why they would lie - but it is very odd!!

It had never occured to me that Henry William's father was anything other than a normal straight-living sort of guy!!

I am not sure what his occupation is on the baptism record - looks a bit like "conman":d - but in 1901 he is an "assurance agent" and in 1911 a "manager for insurance company" (like father, like son :d).

I keep thinking there must be an obvious answer, and really hope there is-

I think his occupation was 'carman'. Have you noticed the next baptism?

:dOoh, Scuda -- no , I hadn't looked closely...thank you :d

It just gets stranger! - it looks like the same parents, at the same address have a daughter Sarah, baptised too - I knew HW had two sisters, Florence and Beatrice - their baptism is here http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/?htx=View&r=5538&dbid=1558&iid=31280_197240-00098&fn=Florence+Annie&ln=Wicks&st=r&ssrc=gr_t45875_p-1117934786_g32796&pid=3170505- and a later daughter, Kate but never came across a Sarah!

More confused than ever LOl!

There are 5 baptisms in Notting Hill to parents with the same names between 1891 and 1901 - just checking the addresses and occupations.

Thanks Mary :)

I feel thoroughly confused  LOL

Muggins, Aren't you looking at two completely different sets of parents here? For Henry William and Florence & Beatrice, I mean.

Yes, looks like 3 of the baptisms are to the same parents, but the last one may not be, as the church and address are different; not sure about the first. The father's a carman in all 5 cases.

Alice Maude 11/4/1891, 97 Latimer Road

John Zebulon 12/3/1892, 86 St. Ann's Road

Henry William and Sarah 17/3/1892, 86 St. Ann's Road

William George 3/10/1901, 32 Mersey? Street.

The first four are at St. Clement's, Notting Hill and the last one at All Saints, Notting Hill.

Why on earth would John Zebulon be baptised a week before HW and Sarah?

What was the father's name and occupation on HW's marriage certs, Joan?

Thank you, Scuda and Mary :)

I'm thinking I have gone drastically wrong somewhere- but can't work out how!

In 1901, William (carman) and Emma E Wicks are living at 32 Mersey Street, Hammersmith, with children Sarah 15, John Z 9, Charles S 7, James J 4, and William 14, which accounts for some of the children in the list of baptisms I found. So it doesn't look like the same family as your HW Wicks.

Remind me, who are the parents you have for HW, and where are they in 1901?

Hello Mary

I have HW's parents as Henry and Annie Elizabeth (nee Payne). In 1901 they are in Forset Rd, Walthamstow, and Henry is an Assurance agent. (as he is on HW's Marriage to Caroline Dowsett)

Joan

You are so used to problems you assume there are going to be problems even if there aren't.

Take a deep breath, calm down and work slowly backwards telling us what you DO have.

So a baptism to parents William (carman) and Emma Elizabeth in Notting Hill wasn't really on the cards, then? ;(
