1891 census: I have Frederick Hogg (a Tanners Labourer) aged 37 living in Warrington, Cheshire with his wife Lucy aged 38. Both born in Derby, Derbyshire.
With them are children Charles aged 11 born Chesterfield, Harry aged 3 born Derby and Eliza aged 1 born Latchford, Warrington.

I cannot find a marriage for Frederick and Lucy nor can I find a birth for Frederick. Obviously I can't look for Lucy's birth as I don't know her maiden name.

I've searched Births, Marriages (both GRO and Parish), Baptisms, Census returns but am up against a brick wall.

I know that Frederick died in Warrington and was buried there on 6 Sep 1897.

Note: All my searches are on FMP.

There is this birth for an Eliza Hogg, suggesting a mother's maiden name of Parker:

HOGG, ELIZA PARKER

There's a very confused public tree on Ancestry saying a Lucy Madeley was married to Frederick Hogg but also with a Parker surname.

I need to look at it carefully as it's rather muddled!

There is an Eliza Hogg, 1889, born Latchford on cheshirebmd, no mmn and no corresponding entry on gro.

According to the tree, there was another son, Frederick, born in 1894.

1901 and Lucy is a widow wit her son Charles P Hogg and other children.

It looks as if Charles was the son of Edward Parker and Lucy nee Madeley.

I've found a Parish Record where Lucy remarried after Fredericks death.
She married Robinson Brabon widower on 5 March 1900 in Warrington and gave her father's name as Edward Madeley, Police Officer.
Still unable to find a marriage for Lucy Madeley/Parker to a Frederick Hogg (would have been after Edward Parker died aged 28 Q1 1880 at Chesterfield).

Thank you all for taking the time to help.

Lucy was free to marry again, but it might be that Fred wasn't.

Yes, Edward Madeley was a Policeman in the 1871 Census. Before that he was a Tape Weaver.
He married Ann Watson in 1838.

I wondered if this is Fred in 1881 in the army barracks at Aldershot:

https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBC%2F1881%2F4299991%2F00582&parentid=GBC%2F1881%2F0003936397

He's a couple of years younger then might have been expected, but it looks likely this is the army record for the same man and there he is called Fred rather than Frederick:

https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBM%2FWO97%2F3070%2F007%2F001&parentid=GBM%2FWO97%2F3070%2F81057

The army record says his parents are Henry and Sarah and that he has siblings Walter and Ada.

This looks like the family in 1861 except mum is Eliza not Sarah:

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/8767/images/DBYRG9_2494_2495-0267?ssrc=&backlabel=Return&pId=22343069

and this is that Fred's birth reg:

Time for a break....

Merry, the online tree has Fred's parents as Henry Hogg and Eliza (Stacey), so it all ties up.

Ada was Mary Ada:
