Hello all,

I hadn't realised that Ancestry had some newspapers.

One has come up as a hint for my great great grandmother, but I don't think it is included in the UK subscription (even though they are UK/Ireland newspapers!).

Would anyone be able to give me any more details about the record, so I can see whether it is worth upping my subscription?

Her name is Esther Down(e)s, but the ancestry hint says her name is Esther Brownhills, and her spouse is T Downs.

My one died 13 January 1940. This one has the year of death as 1940, so hoping it might be her.

Many thanks,

Tom

There seem to be a few on Find my Past that relate to her death, but again, subscription has expired, so shall check those when I am at the library.

Newspapers.com (the Ancestry one) has free access this weekend, Tom, but you have to go via a certain link (see below).

This is the beginning of it:
Lichfield Mercury 26 Jan 1940
BROWNHILLS
LOCAL RESIDENT'S DEATH
The funeral took place at Brownhills Parish Church, on Thursday last week, of an old local resident named Mrs. Esther Downs, wife of Mr. T. Downs...

You should be able to view it using the link in post #3 to get the rest but let me know if you can't.

Thank you Kate! Got the full article now.

What good timing. And it says some lovely things about her, so that's a great find.
