View Full Version : Difficulties with Irish National Archives search

Here's a result I was searching for on the Irish National Archives website:

https://www.nationalarchives.ie/search-the-online-catalogue/advanced-search/#!/details/110561612

However, I was only able to find this entry easily because I already knew what the entry would say from what was written in the Irish Probate Indexes. After several failures the entry came up with I typed John Hughes Manure in the simple search.

I would like to see what else the catalogue has for Hughes in various villages in Co Mayo, but I can't make the advanced search work.

eg. I clicked Advanced Search and put Hughes in the Title box and Hollymount in the Scope and Content, but get no results from that (surely that probate entry above should appear?). I tried Mayo in the S&C instead and got a few matches, but none of them were wills, when there should be several.

Whay am I doing wrong?

I also note that when I click Clear at the bottom of the search screen the boxes don't empty. *sigh*

I can't find an administration from the 1890s even when just searching for the name only and ploughing through a long list of results. If I could make the date restriction boxes work that might help, but I have no confidence in any of it at the moment!

Wow, I hate the message that comes up: "There are no results for this search, might I suggest that you change search criteria to be less choosey"

Yes, I thought the same. Especially as I didn’t think I was being at all ‘choosey’!

Could someone perhaps confirm that the site isn't working at all today?

When I put a name in the simple search the results page is relaced by a blank version of the advanced search.

Also, this site:

https://www.johngrenham.com/browse/retrieve_text.php?text_contentid=459

which was working until yesterday, has error message:

The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.

and it's a long bank holiday :mad::mad::mad:

The simple search is coming back with search results for me. Also the John Grenham site seems to be working o.k. for me.

Thanks Kate. I'll have another look later and see if it's just me getting blocked!

Aaaarrrrgggghhhhh!!

Can someone else open this page:

https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

and see if you also get this message:

Error displaying the error page: Application Instantiation Error: Failed to start the session.

I've spent weeks looking for a civil marriage for someone and now I've found a possible match using FMP, but I can't look at it!

I hate bank holidays!! lol

I've been looking for 3 months! So, don't find it too quickly.

John Hughes married Bridget/Delia nee Cleary about 1898 (13 years on 1911 census). They were both from Co Mayo and as far as I know never went anywhere else, though I've looked all over Ireland.

Either of them could have had a previous marriage. She was b abt 1872 and John about 10 years earlier.

Can't find anything.

Did a wide search too.

:D Thanks for looking Maggie.

I read somewhere that as many as 30% of Catholic marriages in Ireland never made it to the GRO even in the 20thC. Also, I was shocked to see so many deaths that say 'No medical attendance' in the 20thC too.
