Henry Hughes and Mary Standrick

Henry and Mary marry in June 1864 @ St Mary. Stratford Bow, Middlesex.

Henry's father is Charles Hughes, Mary's is Abraham Standrick.

Mary Dinah is born 3 months later, baptised in Dec 1864. Two sons are born, Henry Charles in 1866 and Thomas John in 1867. All born in Bethnal Green.

I believe this is Mary and the children in 1871 https://www.ancestry.co.uk/discoveryui-content/view/12172459:7619?tid=&pid=&queryId=15a7da0dbdbfeb9179fac96e8440ae69&_phsrc=rSH4016&_phstart=successSource Mary gives her place of birth as Bristol.

No sign of Henry.

Another son, William George is born in 1874 then I cannot find any of them until the children start to marry. Therefore I don't know where Henry was born. A dna match has him born in Worcestershire to a Charles Hughes and Mary Ann Wheeler but I can't see how they've made that leap.

Can anyone find Henry after the marriage that might give me a clue as to where he was born?

And I won't even get started on Mary's parentage ... that's a thread for another day:d

I did wonder if Henry was in prison due to the gap between the two younger children but no joy there either.

More information from the marriage cert that might help in tracing him (though presumably you have it already): Henry's occupation Dairyman, his father's licensed victualler.

I hadn't seen this, Kite, thank you. I've beeen concentrating on trying to find Henry! He is deceased at the time of Mary Dinah's marriage in 1899

It's not stated whether he's still living on the marriage records of the other children.

The 1885 Post Office London directory has a Henry Hughes, dairyman, at 197 Old Street, EC. Of course it could be a different person.

Henry Hughes, dairyman, is at 197 Old Street from 1884 to 1888. There is a Henry Hughes death in Bethnal Green in Jan-Mar 1889, age 56. But again, of course they might be two different people.

I've just tried searching "Henry Hughes, dairyman" in 1871, 1881 and 1891 with no joy.

I'm giving up on it! The dna match has attached her Mary Ann Wheeler (assumed mother of Henry) of Worcestershire to my Wheeler family of Bethnal Green (I can prove that the relevant Mary Ann was firmly in BG in 1841 and not in Worcs) and consequently we are linked on Thru'lines which makes it gospel truth in her mind. Obviously there's a link somewhere but we only share 9% dna so it could be way back. Just need to convince the match!
