It will include wills! That's great news; perhaps I shall be able to trace my Purkis family back further.

We might have to wait until the end of 2022.

That's great news. Thanks, Elizabeth. Can't wait!

Oooh, I need these for OH's family. Thanks

As the PRs are already on FMP, although not some of the older ones, it is the wills which I'm really looking forward to.

I'm still waiting for the East Sussex records to turn up on Ancestry. Wasn't that supposed to be this year?
Edit - this did happen in the end.

When will this happen?

It's supposed to be this year, so they only have a few weeks to meet that deadline now.

Are there any updates on the parish registers? Despite HGS indexes, and swathes of stuff available for decades on FamilySearch (back to the days of the CGI!) I have huge holes in my research.

Phoenix, I find that with Hampshire it is very difficult to do any meaningful research before the 1750s. There aren't any PRs on Ancestry.

They were supposed to be made available on Ancestry last year so hopefully they are coming soon.

Portsmouth was mercifully a borough, and there are wonderful records on FMP, but before 1814 it's impossible to identify families with any certainty, as a seaport just sucked in people from the surrounding countryside. I've spent many happy hours in the HRO, but was forced to conclude that I needed manorial records, as movement was often not to contiguous parishes, but to manors held by the same lord of the manor.

The card catalogue and "Recently Added and Updated" are showing Hampshire Baptisms 1813-1921, but I can't get the page to load at all. Usually with new databases I have to refresh a few times, but this is different. When they have sorted it out I will post the link. And hopefully the marriages and burials and pre-1813 PR's will appear soon too.

Yay

It has disappeared from the card catalogue and "recently added" now, so not so yay.

It's marriages pre 1780 that I want. One entire branch appears never, in a whole century, to have bothered with marriage. Never found anything so far, but you never know.

I thought they promised 2022 on this. I wonder what the problem is?

The baptisms have been added properly now.

Thank you, Kite.

I feel I have to point out that Portsmouth, being a borough, has separate records to the county, which are on Find My Past.

Marriages should be coming soon - again, there is a link in the Recently Added and Updated and the Card Catalogue, but the page won't actually load at the moment.

kiterunner

And now the marriages have disappeared from the recently added and the card catalogue, so hopefully they will reappear soon and actually work.

Marriages 1754-1921 have (at last!) been added properly:

But some images don't seem to be indexed yet. I don't know what percentage but I am guessing a lot of them.

Phoenix

It has only turned up in the last couple of hours... and they are saying 466 entries????

Phoenix
25-04-23, 18:24
But... oh the joy of being able to browse, and check all those entries where I never noted witnesses etc. Though I'll miss looking up and gazing into the eyes of a carved angel as one did in the old Record Office.

I couldn't find anything, but then realised, if there's only 10 entries for the name Smith..........

kiterunner
25-04-23, 21:43
In most cases, it seems that you will need to search another index (e.g. FamilySearch) and then browse through the images to find the entry that you want. I don't know whether they have indexed the images but not managed to load the indexes yet, or not actually indexed them yet. I haven't seen any announcements about it yet.

Phoenix
26-04-23, 09:09
Goodness knows how much of the index they have uploaded, but Titchfield at least now appears to be indexed. (Previously only indexed on FMP) Off to hunt for Polings.... I may be some time.

kiterunner
26-04-23, 09:22
Well, although the Card Catalogue still says 466 records, there were 13 Georges on the index yesterday (given name, not surname) and now there are 30,700 Georges. And 9,782 Smiths instead of 10.

kiterunner
26-04-23, 16:26
The Card Catalogue now says 794,719 records for Hampshire Marriages and Banns.

Phoenix

The awful thing is that I'm now crying More!

I always used to describe parish register research like french polishing: you have to do a little bit at a time, going carefully through each type of record. Otherwise you are seduced by the 16th century Smiths who are quite unrelated to your 19th century ones.

Post-1813 burials have been added:

The pre-1813 registers have now been added:

but for some reason not showing in the Card Catalogue yet.

I found something really interesting in the front of the Register for Sparsholt parish. It begins in 1607, but the front two pages list all the vicars/ministers who served the parish from 1607. Some of them were resident and some non-resident, combining their parish duties with other parishes. It was really interesting and I had to stop myself from researching them....none were my relatives, but someone might be interested.

The Hampshire PR's have just been updated (don't know what's been changed or added).

Also Hampshire Non-conformist Registers 1835-1921 have been added:

Well they still have nothing from South Stoneham, so hopefully there is more to come.
