I'm trying to locate Samuel Gage and his wife Sophia on the 1841 and 1851 census. They have a daughter Harriet born aboyt 1832 in Bromley Essex.

I found them on the 1841:
HO107; Piece 338; Enumeration District: 7; Folio: 4; Page: 3.

They also have a daughter Sophia aged 15 and son William aged 12. The address seems to be Hair Green.

This is them on the 1851:
Class: HO107; Piece: 1780; Folio: 467; Page: 12

I think the address is also Hair Green, although it is hard to read.

My problem is that Sophia and William have turned into twin boys John and James aged 22. Which makes them the same age as William in 1841.

Harriet is a servant and living elsewhere in 1851. She married Elijah Hines in 1852 and they immigrate to Australia in 1855.

Thoughts anyone?

The address looks like Hare Green in 1851 but I should think it's the same place.

There's one of those "I" batches on the IGI for Great Bromley, but it's only girls, so that doesn't really help.

It looks as though Samuel and Sophia also had a daughter called Sarah:

Ray Long unfortunately passed away last year or the year before. I had contact with him through the Cosford database. I don't know if anyone has taken it over.

Could this be anything to do with ages being rounded down in 1841?

William's age on the 1841 is 12, so it doesn't appear to be rounded down. But William could be John. You would need to look at the baptism register to find out all of Samuel and Sophia's children.

I think so. I found the actual parish register online. Essex have some scanned and on line for free. I can't find Sophia Hiskey on it though. I had a quick look at the tree you suggested and he says 1793 she was baptised. I can't find it but did find many of her potential siblings.

I thought that but aren't under 15's not rounded?

William's age on the 1841 is 12, so it doesn't appear to be rounded down. But William could be John. You would need to look at the baptism register to find out all of Samuel and Sophia's children.

Yes. Sadly Great Bromley aren't online yet so it may take a while.
