I am looking to find out more about the parents of Richard Blechynden White.
Richard Blechynden White was born in 1848 in Portsmouth, the son of William White, a fish salesman of Bath Square and his wife Maria Beale.
The pair married 23 July 1834 at St Mary’s Portsea
Here they are in 1851, with children Wllliam, Thomas, John, Maria, James, Alfred, Richard himself, and Ellen [Julia].
The parents and first three children born in Landport and the younger children in Portsmouth.
William was born c 1813 and Maria c 1815

It is possibly significant that next door are Louisa and Fanny Byles, 44 and 42 respectively, daughters of William and Ann Byles from Bosham, Sussex.
Here is the family in 1841, in Tower Street Portsmouth:

This is Maria’s birth:
WHITE, MARIA JULIA BENLI [sic]
GRO Reference: 1841 M Quarter in PORTSEA ISLAND UNION Volume 07 Page 159
And she was baptised the following year.
The parents, William and Maria both died before the 1861 census.
The eldest son, William, who had married a girl from Bosham:

moved back into Bath Square with the two youngest children.
William White appears to be the son of John White and Julia nee BYLES.
This is their marriage in 1812:

Witnesses are the groom from the previous wedding and Rich’d Gudge, a serial witness.
I would like to think that Julia is related to Fanny and Louisa Byles, possibly their aunt.
Can anyone find anything out about her? I can’t spot her anywhere.
This is her burial, Sept 26 1841 aged 50 from St Mary Street

Her husband John is buried from Bath Square, in the same area of the cemetery in 1852:

I think that Richard’s middle name is a complete red herring. This is Richard Blechynden’s marriage:

he and his wife were fishmongers, and I suspect that he may have been Richard’s godfather.
