Hello Again

I am back looking at Annie Williams (1892 to 1976). I ordered her marriage certificate and she was married in 1915 to Richard Thomas Hughes in Llangollen, Corwen. She lived in Birkenhead at the time (maybe a servant if the 1911 census is the correct one. Her Dad was Joseph. One of her witnesses was Eliza Kate Williams, and I made a risky assumption that she was Annie's sister. There was also a Joseph Caugh (I don't think Caugh is an actual surname though) who was the second witness. Family members have said she was from the north west, Whitby, Elesmere Port, Salford and Manchester. I do beleive though that Annie's brother and sister lived in Whitby, as my cousin said he would visit as a child.

When searching the 1901 census, I found Annie and Joseph Williams, plus an Elsie Kate Williams. Now I thought I was onto something, but Elsie and Eliza are totally different names.

I find a few Annie's on GRO and I am leaning towards Jones as Annie's mums maiden name, but again I am assuming.

What else can I do? I naively thought that the marriage cert was answer so many questions.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks for any help.
Nick

As Annie lived until 1976, do you have her in 1939? That would give her precise date of birth. If it's right (and people do tell porkies from time to time) that would narrow down the possible Annies.

I think you have probably found the correct census entry, as tthese look like the children on that record:
WILLIAMS, WILLIAM EDWARD JONES
GRO Reference: 1889 S Quarter in WIRRAL Volume 08A Page 446
WILLIAMS, ANN JONES
GRO Reference: 1892 M Quarter in WIRRAL Volume 08A Page 442

WILLIAMS, ELIZA KATE JONES
GRO Reference: 1894 M Quarter in WIRRAL Volume 08A Page 484

And this looks like their little brother, who is on the 1911 census:

WILLIAMS, JOHN GRIFFITH JONES
GRO Reference: 1902 D Quarter in WIRRAL Volume 08A Page 426

And this might be Joseph:

Williams Eliza K Hough W.Derby 8b 742

I do have her DOB - 10/01/1892

What can I do with this date? Order her BC?

Thanks

It does look right in that Annie b 10 Jan is with a Richard T Hughes in 1939, but I just wondered which bit of info is the actual certainty!!

Hi Merry

Where did you find the info regarding the 1980 death registration? GRO doesn't allow me to view deaths in the 1980s without a reference. I use FMP and Ancestry. A little confused now as everything I have points to 1976, I am also sure I was told as a youngster she died in 1976.

Thanks

I copied and pasted from Ancestry and Phoenix has the same info from FMP.

If it's certain that she died in 1976 then the 1939 lady presumably isn't the right one as she matches the 1980 death, yet she apparently has the right husband. A lot depends on which bits of information were known to you before researching and which bits are what you have gleaned from your searches!

What about the other people n the household in 1939? Do they mean anything to you?: Hilda K Hughes b 1917 later married a Williams and John M Hughes b 1934.

What Merry says is so true. Unless we are very organised, most of us know stuff about our families, without noting who told us, and when. It is sensible to note AND DATE any information we receive. And put it somewhere we can find it again. I fail on just about every count.

Yes, me too.

Another thing is recording when something is not what you are looking for and why, and the date you did that research.

And a third thing is having a 'to do' list of things you would look for if you were able to. It's all very well Ancestry (or whoever) releasing a new dataset, but if you can't remember why you wanted to look at it.........:o

Thanks all :)

Hilda was my grandmother so definitely the correct 1939 census. I am assuming then that somebody must have told me when I was young, and I either misheard or was told the incorrect year. I did do a search, and found 1976 (Maelor Hosiptal, Wrexham) but that must have been a different Annie. Will take another look.

Thanks again both :)

Do you remember her dying? I know how old I was and what class I was in when my Grandma died so although I can not remember the year off the top of my head I can work it out.
