Another one. Sorry - not quite so complex this time though....

I may be just sightly suspicious about anything to do with the family now though

Tracing George Allen born c1838 Prescot, Lancashire.

Father on marriage certificate is James Allen, Labourer

1841 census
Ecclestone
James Pye 35 Labourer
William Allen 12
George Allen 3
Henry Allen 1
Ellen Allen 40
Ann Allen 8

1851 census

Ellen Allen, Head, UNM , 46, b Dallum Lancashire
Ann Allen, daur, 17, Nurse, B: Eccleston
George Allen, son, 14, Labourer in Colliery, B Prescot
James Allen, son , 5, B: Eccleston
Elizabeth Allen, gdaur, 9 mos, B: Eccleston
James Pye, Lodger, UNM51, B: Prescot

1853 Marriage
Ann Allen to George Beesley, Prescot district (only two people on page)

1857 George Allen marriage to Janet Lewis. Witness = George Beesley

1861 census
George Beesley, Head, 36 B: Prescot
Ann Beesley, wife, 30 B: Prescot
James Pye, Father in Law, 62 B: Prescot
Elizabeth Allen, Stepdaughter, 10 B: Eccleston

So, does it look like James Pye could be Daddy?

To clarify (given the state of my other thread) I'm suggesting he's the father to Ellen Allen's children.

Looks likely.

I checked for a double index entry for James Allen/Pye around 1845/6 - nothing (assuming he was born in the Eccleston that was in Prescot district and not one of the other Ecclestons!). I should think there's a chance any baptism would be helpful if they were openly living together.

My gg grandmother had a lodger who was the father of some of her children, it seems their living arangements must have been known as he is described as "consort" on one census. Her husband also had children with his housekeeper at the same time and the vicar made careful notes in the parish register at each baptism! :o

You may also be lucky!

My great grandmother had a small child on the 1891 census, Her husband had died in 1888, so the child could not possibly be his.
She had a lodger, she married him in June of that year.
I don't have the childs birth cert but the GRO indexes give the lodgers surname as her middle name.
