This is the son of my 3x-great-aunt. Apparently he left a will, but I can't view any details.

Could someone please give me the information on the probate entry?

I think you can view it for free on the Victoria PRO site:
https://beta.prov.vic.gov.au/search_journey/select?q=series_id:%2828%207591%207592%207933%2017 379%29%20AND%20family_name:%28randolph%29%20AND%20 given_name:%28edward%29&start_date=1861&end_date=1862&form_origin=WILL_SEARCH

It comes up with several documents for him.

If the above link doesn't work, try this one:

Administration was (eventually) granted to Henry Randolph of Melbourne, his eldest brother.

Thanks! Very useful.

So that's where Henry Adolphus Randolph went! Some of the children of this family disappeared from view, so it's great to have found them.

It seems that Henry could be the one who died in 1885 and had a wife called Caroline. Also children called Julia and Stanley Aubyn Randolph.

ElizabethHerts

Evangeline Julia was born in 1882.
Stanley Aubyn was born in 1886 and died in 1888.

Caroline Sarah Williams married Henry Randolph, probably 1879.

In 1887 Caroline Sarah Randolph married John Bettles.

Do you mean Henry Stanley Randolph whose death was registered in 1886, Elizabeth? The Victoria BDM site shows his age at death as 32, wife as Caroline Sarah Williams, and parents as H[enr]y [Randolph] and Jane Pollard. He married Caroline in 1879.

There is also a Henry Randolph death in 1858, age 32, parents names John and Eliza. I just mention him in case he could be the father of Henry Stanley.

The newspaper death notice for the Henry who died in 1886, husband of Caroline, gives his age as 32, and says he was the son of the late Captain Henry Randolph of the ship Agamemnon.

Oh, I thought perhaps it was too late. Should have gone with my instinct.
I wonder what happened to Edward's brother.

My Henry and Edward's parents were Richard Randolph and his wife Jane, maiden name Parrott.

New South Wales BDM has the death of a Henry Randolph in 1883 at Wagga Wagga, age 58. It doesn't give his parents' names. I'll see if I can find out any more about him.

The NSW State Archives search comes up with a Henry Randolph on the Assisted Immigrants Index, ship Francis Ridley, year 1849, place of arrival Port Phillip. The passenger list has Edward age 29 and Henry age 24 together, both farm labourers, Edward's birthplace Chipperly, Bucks, and Henry's "Austin Linton" (presumably Aston Clinton?).

Great, thanks. That's very interesting.

Their father Richard Randolph was a veterinary surgeon (given on his wife's death certificate). He died in 1840 at Peckham Rye.
Jane lived until 1853, so it must have been a wrench for her when the boys left.
She worked at the College for Civil Engineers, Putney, Surrey.

According to the information on the sheets Henry Adolphus Randolph was born on 24th July 1824 at Upper Winchendon.

Wow, I have just been deciphering what was written about Edward. It's all very squashed up.
"Much regretted" with "Jane R." directly underneath and then "Was killed on the spot 17 October 1861"

Jane his mother can't have written this as she was already dead, so it might have been his sister Jane, who didn't marry until 1863.

Edward was born at Long Crendon according to the piece of paper.

There is a Henry Randolph listed in Victoria Rate Books (on Ancestry) at The Crown, Waranga, in the 1860's and 1870's. No idea whether it's the same Henry though.

Thanks, Kate.

I see that it's "straight up the road" from Deep Creek, Victoria to Wagga Wagga, NSW!
Only 432 K!
