FMP announced today that there are over 79,000 closed records that have been opened to mark the 80th Anniversary of the Register (29th September).

They say the updates are only available on FMP.

I reckon it is just their normal programme of opening closed records as the date of birth passes 100 years ago, and they just made more of it for the anniversary and because they didn't have much else to announce for this week's "Findmypast Fridays", Maggie.

Good news. My Grandad might be there now.

Nope. Still not there. :(

Rather than start a new thread, I will add to this one that just over 100,000 records on the 1939 Register have just been opened.

Thanks Kate.

I'm surprised they didn't mention it in "Findmypast Fridays" today. Maybe they're saving it for a week when there isn't much else to announce.

Their latest "Findmypast Fridays" says that 57,000 closed records have just been opened, but the total number of open records is only 10 higher than it was 11 days ago, and only 29 higher than it was 22 days ago. Only 597 higher than it was at the end of August! And I'm pretty sure they already announced the 100,000 records which were added in August in a previous FMP Fridays.

So I have no idea what they are talking about! Unless they are about to open 57,000 records by tomorrow and have just jumped the gun with announcing it?

No, the number hasn't gone up overnight.

I looked at the numbers of open records for people born each month starting with Jan 1921. Up to August 1921 there's around 60-70,000 people recorded for each month. Then the numbers fall to around 40,000 a month. So, would 57,000 closed records being opened be the residual for Aug-Oct 1921? Are you going to keep looking every day or two?!

I might! I usually check the numbers about once every week or fortnight.

But also I might ask them about it on Facebook when I'm on my other computer later.

Good idea.

My Mum was born in May 1921 and her record opened up in the August offerings this year. However, I had sent a copy of my mum's death certificate to them three times (she died in 2012) for them to open her record. I knew she was a trainee nurse at Addenbrookes in Cambridge but they said each time she wasn't there. She was there of course - with correct name, future married name andcorrect DOB. Makes you wonder if they know what they are doing.

I think I stopped wondering that a while ago!! That's terrible though - once, mabe, but to have asked three times.:eek::eek:

The 57,000 records which they mentioned last week have actually been opened today.

Over 100,000 records have been opened in the latest update.

Finally, six months after the last update, over 158,000 records have been opened.

Gosh, that's brilliant. I'd always assumed they'd do it annually. It has been taking such a long time for deaths to be released recently.

They normally do it about every 3 to 4 months, and I was getting very impatient for the latest update. But strangely, if I look at the number of open records for each date of birth, the number seems to drop sharply after the middle of March 1922, even though the number of open records has increased by 158,000. This may be why I can't find my relative with dob 26 May 1922 (why I have been waiting so impatiently!)

I'm surprised they haven't announced it in this week's Findmypast Fridays.

They have just opened about 64,700 more records. Looking at the numbers born each month, it seems to be just about up to date now.

They have just opened 90,809 more records.

They have just opened the records of those born between May 1923 and Nov 1923 (inclusive). A lot of new records!
