Entry no54 has been transcribed as Sarah Leo (which is what I'd dearly like it to be!) but I'm not sure. Are there any 18th century handwriting experts here with an opinion please?

Sue, I would say that it is Leo. If you compare the e with the e in Peter it looks the same.

Thanks Elizabeth. I'm wondering about the "O" though! Could that also be an e? Lee is a far more common name and the name above looks the same.....

Sue, if you look at the "e" in "Jane" in no 50 it looks different from the "o" in Leo. That's why I thought it was Leo.

OK, I can see your reasoning! Could it possibly be a double o? As much as I'd like it to be Leo (Sarah and Peter could be my 5xgt gr parents) I'd also like to be convinced!

It's Lee, surely?

An awful lot of Norfolk Coes end up transcribed as Coo.

Look at "wife" - the terminal letter looks identical to me.

Thanks Phoenix - that's what I thought from the start! I think I wanted to be told otherwise but to be honest there are arguments both ways!

However I am now wondering if the Sarah Leo that married Justinian Moss has been mistranscribed and should be Lee... I'll have to get to the Westminster Archives to look for myself!

I do admit there is no certainty with this one, unfortunately!

Are these records of one of the Lying In Hospitals? I hope things balance themselves out later, as there seem an awful lot of girls!

It's the Endell St Lying in Hospital, Holborn. I've just checked the rest of the page and out of 59 entries only 12 were boys!
The Genealogist offered a 14 day free trial so I'm making the most of it, I didn't know they had PCC Wills as well....! Let's hope that I remember to cancel the trial before they take my money!!

That place in Endell St is now a club called The Hospital our company have their Christmas parties there. Unbelievable isn't it.
