I need to find this man in 1871.

Birth reg:

Births Dec 1863
BROWNE Percy Frank Islington 1b 319 mmn Love

His parents were William Henry Browne and Sarah Love.

William H Browne died in 1865 aged 68 (so b 1797).
Sarah Love was born in 1836/7 in West Pennard in Somerset and so was 40 years William's junior. They were married in 1857 and had two sons, Charles Henry b 1859 and Percy Frank.

I know Percy was never married and lived until the 1940s. I wouldn't worry about finding him in 1871 except that I really want to know what happened to Sarah after her husband died when she was aged around 28.

Sarah's elder son was in a school in 1871 but I hope Percy is still with for the census. Perhaps she remarried, or lived with someone? Her parents (Fanny and John Love) were still alive and living in Somerset in 1871 but Sarah and/or Percy isn't with them. I haven't traced her siblings forward yet.

(Oh, if anyone looks at the 1857 marriage, I know Sarah says her father was James not John, but I think that was a mistake! Her brother was James)

Could he have been going by his middle name? First entry on this page, sorry to say at a boarding school:

If Kite has found him, you might find out more at the LMA:

Rules only required that the father was dead, but an application had to made, and this may have survived.

Ooh, thanks Kate - that looks promising. I did look at the death indexes for Sarah, but nothing stood out. I was surprised the father didn't make a will. Made me wonder if Sarah had predeceased him. From memory (I'm in Costa at the mo) when the older son was baptised in about 1866 the entry said decd in the parents box and I thought that was just for WHB, but now im wondering. Odd he was baptized after Percy... (I think)

There is a baptism entry for Charles Henry at West Pennard 1860 but it says "Omitted" for the date:

That's interesting. Once I came across a bap in London for him I didn't look anywhere else.

I saw this one for Charles and it is the father who is dec'd:
