Isaiah and his wife Gertrude were in Lewisham, London on the 1901 Census.

Then the hints are coming that he died in 1908 in Victoria, Australia and that he left a will.

Is anyone able to give me a few details, please?

The Australia Death Index has Isiah Kingston died 1908 Yarra Glen, Victoria, age 36, parents Thos Kingston and Susanna Keys. Are those the right parents' names for your Isaiah?

Yes, Kate, thanks!

He was still at Lewisham in 1905. I wonder what happened to Gertrude?

There are two people named Kingston travelling to Sydney 27 Apr 1906 initials I for him and S for her (Ancestry transcription), but could be a G. Have you looked for children born here after 1901? (no children on the passenger list)

Merry

The passenger list should be the right one as he is listed as a printer and I see he was a compositor in 1901.

He was still at Lewisham in 1905.

Hadn't noticed you had said this!

There's a Mrs G Kingston returning from Australia in 1939 (April) aged 68, but if that's her, I don't see her on the 1939 register if her birth date is 1 Mar 1874 (as recorded on some trees on Ancestry). She probably remarried in Australia.

Elizabeth, what were the names of Gertrude's parents? We might be able to find her death in Australia if we know their names.

There is a Gertrude Kingston on the 1906 e roll at Pound Creek, Flinders, Victoria, "home duties".

There is a Gertrude Kingston age 34 sailing from Melbourne to London on the "Albany" in Aug 1908 but she is down as a "wife" rather than "widow". I suppose it could be a mistake though.

I couldn't find any children for them born here.

Yes, he was a compositor. In 1891 he is with his mother's family in Plymouth as a Printer's Apprentice.

Gertrude's father was James Bramham.
He was a Mason in Brampton Bierlow in Yorkshire.

Thanks Merry and Kate for your help.

lol That goes to show I should always look at the full record! As the dob didn't match with an online tree I decided that wasn't her. Had I looked at the other person though.....! I expect her dob on the tree is a baptism :(
