Is the marriage date supposed to be 1764, Elizabeth?

Oops! I used the page for his son and deleted some information. Now corrected.
Thanks, Kate, for altering me.
If wharfegen is where you got that from, then ignore me, Elizabeth, but they are on there:
http://wharfegen.org.uk/getperson.php?personID=I338618&tree=1
In order to do a search I had to sign in, which I had been intending to do for some time; so thanks for the push! (In order to get there I had to reset my password too. I think they hadn't seen me in far too long.)
Among other details, they have a MI:
"Here lies the remains of Joseph Wilkinson of Otley, Gardener, who departed this life the 18th day of March 1792 in the 45th years of his age."

Janet, many thanks. I have used the website before but not recently. I will revisit it.
A lot of the information is available on Findmypast. They have the BTs for Otley with images and also have York Prerogative Court wills.

The Wharfegen site is very useful. It has to be used with caution, like any other site. I have sent them additional information on this family and the Shaw family, which includes a couple of corrections as they had the wrong parents for Elizabeth Wilkinson who married Matthew Shaw.
I agree, Elizabeth, on both counts. I think I had been shying away from it precisely because I was inexperienced and not sure just how much credence to give to their data. But there is a lot of raw material there, and now that I am hopefully a bit less out of my depth I'm going to look for an opportunity to go back in and see if I can find some pointers there that can be corroborated elsewhere.
I think it might be you who turned me on to wharfegen in the first place, years ago. I'm going to have another look on FMP too. Thanks for that.

Janet, I don't want to mislead on the York wills. You have to send to the Borthwick Institute for them as there are only indexes.
Prerogative & Exchequer Courts Of York Probate Index, 1688-1858
York Medieval Probate Index, 1267-1500
York Peculiars Probate Index, 1383-1883
If you have any queries, post them. I frequently find that two (or more) heads are better than one!
Not there yet, but I will. Most kind. Thanks, Elizabeth!
