Hi,

I've finally found a document which confirmed a date and place of death for someone in my tree I have been trying to kill off for a number of years.

He is Joseph Eggington and he died 29th August 1866 in Malta. This was from an Army document which confirms he was a soldier in the Yorks/Lancs 84th Foot Regiment.

I would like to know where he is buried but I don't know where to start with burials in Malta and wondered if anyone here had any experience?

I don't think he was returned to Sheffield as I have had no success locating him in any of the Sheffield churchyards or cemeteries of the time.

Any help is appreciated :)

This one (Pietà Military Cemetery) is possible as Wikipedia says "The first British serviceman buried at the cemetery was a group of British soldiers buried in 1866."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piet%C3%A0_Military_Cemetery

I haven't found a way to search for burials there apart from CWGC ones yet though.

Thank you Kate for the link. It does seem promising.
