View Full Version : Durham records office
Is there anyone out there would would be willing to help me please? I need a search of the Chester le Street Workhouse records (if they still exist) for 1872. One of my exalted ancestors died there of severe alcoholism!!!

pThink if theres any records they would be at Durham archives Sally
This is what they have:
Records
•Durham County Record Office, County Hall, Durham DH1 5UL. A variety of union records survive, though little relating to workhouse inmates. Holdings include Guardians' minutes (1840-1930, with gaps).

Try emailing the record office and asking them. Some charge but some look up quick things if you have the dates for nothing. It's worth a try.
Thank you everyone.........I will email them tonight, and even if they charge then at least I may find out a little more.
