This person appears on a passenger list with HER mother Mrs Bernard Vian (Jeanie). They arrive in London on 2/4/1900 and they travelled from Sydney.

She has not been sighted before or since this arrival.

Her father is Bernard Arthur Vian b. 6/8/1866 Lewisham Kent and her mother is Jeanie born abt. 1868 in Scotland.

I can't find them on the 1891 census.

On the 1901 census Bernard, Jeanie and Bernard's step daughter Marianne Cornish are living together.

Bernard is married but alone on the 1911. He says he has been married for 14 years and has no children. I can't find Jeanie anywhere.

Can anyone find her?

Snowy is a lovely name, but could it be a badly-scrawled "Mary"? The first letter does look more like the S's on the page than the M's, though, I'll admit.

Mrs Bernard Vian claims to be 28 on the 1900 passenger list and "Snowy" is 11, but I see that on the 1901 census Jeanie is 33 and Marianne 17 so it doesn't look likely that Snowy could be Marianne.

Jeanie Vian's death was registered Oct-Dec 1925 Bromley, Kent, age 56.

Thanks Kate.

I'm trying to find Jeanie prior to the marriage to Bernard. I thought I had worked it out roughly but now can only find a marriage between an Arthur Cornish and Jane Ingleby in QLD.

Snowy is also not going to be Bernard's child. I confused myself by writing it 1899 initially. But it appears she is using his name.

Hmmm, a Jeanie Vian born 1869 is listed on findmypast as sailing from England to Sydney in 1922. Then she came back to England in 1923 (mistranscribed as "Jessie" on ancestry even though it's typed and clearly says "Jeanie"!) Age 55, address flat 12, 118 Longacre, Ldn, but she seems to be on her own.

I did find that, sorry Kate.

Unless Marianne went back? I'm sure I found Marianne as Mary Ann somewhere. It's so annoying.

You probably already have this, but Marianne's birth is listed on the Queensland BMD index as Mary Ann Cornish, 1883, father Arthur, mother Jane Ingleby.

I have Kate but don't know how to get from Jane to Jeanie. And still can't marry her to Bernard.

If only we knew what country they got married in!

I know. I've tried online newspapers but nothing.

Just having a look to see if I can find jeanie/Jane and Mary Ann/Marianne arriving in England.
