View Full Version : UK Passenger Lists to Australia
Could someone please be kind enough to help me recover some lost
information? I'm looking for the emigration date for Frederick Lyons, his wife
Sarah & a couple of Lyons cubs. I think it was 1861 & I seem to remember it
was under either F. Lyons or F. L. Lyons.
Do you have approx. year of birth? What site do you think you had the info from? Ancestry doesn't start until 1890.

Found this via a public tree on ancestry:

The passenger lists for emigration from the UK don't start till 1890, but the immigration lists for Australia are available.
It's the "Europa", arriving in Sydney 6 Feb 1857. 2nd class passengers include: Mr Fred L Lyons, Misses Sarah Do, Mr Fred Do, Mr Henr Do, Mr Robert Do. I'm not certain it says "Henr" but that public tree shows the second son as Henry.
This is the link to Frederick's entry in the public tree:

Thanks Kite. I'm pretty sure that's him - the name "Europa" sounds familiar but I thought
it was 1861.
Merry - I can't for the life of me remember where I found it but I lost the file (the only
time that's ever happened to me(!)) & I can't retrieve it.
It doesn't matter as Kate found it. I don't have a worldwide sub anyway.
Most Australian states have indexes to records of incoming passengers FREELY available on their Archives website. NSW - NSW State Records, Victoria - Public Records Office of Victoria, Queensland - Qld Govt Immigration Records.
NSW also has digitised images of the original records by ship, especially for Assisted (Bounty) Migrants. Early un-assisted migrants (before 1850s) and sometimes those in steerage are less well recorded.
