In Yardley Hastings in 1841 there are 5 adult John Underwoods.

Charles Underwood, bp 1817, son of John (aged 50) and Mary, appears to be living next door to his parents, who are on the previous page:

So there are two John Underwoods in 1841 who had both married a woman called Mary. As Charles was born in 1817, I assume(!) his parents were married, and that this is the marriage of Bertha's parents: John to Mary Johnson in 1821

A THIRD John Underwood is aged 35 in 1841, and married to Lucy.
In 1871 he says he is aged 66 and born in Gretton, Nr Rockingham. So, I suggest that

John marries Mary Sanders in 1805 in Finedon
John Sanders is bp 1807 in Gretton

They move to Yardley Hastings where Charles is bp 1817
and Charles has a son Sanders.

Do you reckon that's feasible.

Note that there are also James b 1810 and William b 1812 bp in Yardley Hastings, also children of John and Mary, presumably part of the same family.

There don't seem to be any children of John and Mary Underwood baptised in Finedon after that 1805 marriage, only of William and Frances. So it fits that John and Mary moved away.

Gretton is north of Corby, so a fair way off. But another family went to Rothwell, which is equally far flung.

A John and a Mary are buried in Yardley Hastings in the 1840s, making their dates of birth c 1779 and 1781 respectively. That again fits with a marriage in 1805.

Re the BTs, I'd just like to see the actual register and the banns as you sometimes get more detail.

I'm used to big coastal counties. So many different counties border Northamptonshire that families could as easily move across borders as up and down a road. And I have no idea what was "normal" for labourers when they moved.

There is a Mary Sanders baptised 14 Apr 1786 at Gretton, daughter of John and Jane. If her family lived there then she could have gone home to have her first child. But it doesn't quite fit with the Mary Underwood age at death.

Confusingly we have a Gretton and a Grendon.
Yardley Hastings is not far from me. Only a small village
