Could anyone please look up a marriage between

James Ward Burgess and "a Mary"

James was born 21 February 1858 at Cheltenham, St Mary, Gloucester.

He committed suicide and died 2 Nov 1893, dying at home Bramery Cottage (The Nurseries) London Road, Cheltenham.

His wife Mary died in 1893 - 5 months apart (but not sure which one died first). They are buried in a separate grave (probably at St Marys)

He was not married in the 1891 census. He was living at Bamery Cottage with his sister Mary and brother Henry and their married sister Elizabeth Hudson

The only Mary who died in Cheltenham in Jun Q 1893 was 45 years old, which fits with Mary being his Sister (she was age 42 in the census)

Marquette, thanks so much for the information.

My source had apparently got it wrong - he was never married

I knew his sister Mary had died the same year as James, I should have twigged that it was an error.

Thanks re the info of the Wills. I don't currently have Ancestry, so will have to put that on hold.

Many thanks again.

It's a puzzle that the other person did not wonder that the two Marys died in the same year and why he married a woman 10 years old than himself.

Never underestimate someone's ability to twist the facts to fit their narrative.

The probate indexes don't say much more than they both lived at Bramery Cottage and gave the amounts of the estate - about 400 pounds for Mary and 800 for James. You could have a look next time ancestry have a free weekend.
