I don't know what particular French search engines you are asking about? Or what in particular you believe is now online? Do you want to give us some details of what you're looking for? Most French BMD records are online but at local town hall level, so you need to know exactly what place the BMD took place to know where to look. Not much French stuff is searchable at a national level at the moment. I'm sure I found a census entry for some relatives of mine in France a few years ago but I don't think the site that was on still exists.

Thanks Terri , I have found a Francois Marcellin Alcouffe , born 1880 in Vabre in Tarn , so I suppose it's worth a punt to see if this is him , Although he was married in Kampala in 1912 it doesn't give his age he could have been over thirty . my Father in law could have had it in his mind that his father was born in Paris , but he may have been wrong . Although there are a few alcouffes living in Paris at present , one of them has been a curator of the Louvre . Also my father in law said Francois had a sister with a name similar to obertte it could have been Roberta . We don't know if she was younger are older . I'm sure I've seen a Roberta Alcouffe s marriage . Of someone who emigrated to California . So that's worth a look

Well done Jackie . Ithats great I saw the Francois Alcouffe , but I couldn't get to view the household but it looks like it could be him . As Marcellin , his father was called Francois . So they both could be in an household , Have you any idea what the u stands for ? but it's a lot of people in one place .It makes me wonder why they where there all together ? Have you any ideas ? I know Francois Marcellin is in Kampala in 1912 It's a small world , we have visited Sete quite a few times , it's a beautiful place .. I think I can look for certificates from vabre now which I think is in the Tarn area of France . Thank You .

Thank you , I think you have found them , I saw the Francois Alcouffe. But couldn't see the household for some reason I can't get to see that , it looks like both father and son are on the census . I will try and get a certificate if possible from the local registration office . Just wondering what they all where doing there ? Sete is a beautiful place with lots of boats maybe they were fishermen . Is there any way we can find out the address to see the area of Sete . We were in Sete last September it's one of our favourite places . It's a small world ! Thanks

Quaker, to view images on Family Search (which are free) you have to register with them and create a password. After that you should be able to view images which are enabled for online viewing.

FamilySearch doesn't have the image for that one even if you're logged in. But according to the transcription, the Marcelin in that census record was born 1877 at Vabre, so perhaps the brother of Francois.

Nothing to show whether either of these is your Francois Marcellin Alcouffe (i.e. the one who got married in 1912) or not though, is there?

Hi , yes your right , unless I can get a certificate I won't know , but thanks for helping I have got a password to ancestry , it must be my iPad it won't let me view the images . When I click on them. We have knowing when Francois marcellin was born , he could have been well over thirty when he married in Kampala . But it's a great find and worth looking into in depth . Thanks once again

If you mean the link in post #6, it is on FamilySearch, not ancestry, but there is no image to view.

The images for the 1906 Sète census are on here but I can't see how we get the book and page numbers from the FamilySearch record at the moment:

http://archives-pierresvives.herault.fr/archive/resultats/recensement/n:28?rech_commune_Index=1775&rech_commune_Libel=S%C3%A8te&RECH_DATE_exacte=1906&type=recensement

Will have another look later.

Edit - still can't figure it out.
