View Full Version : Does the GRO do marriage certs anymore?

I know they have the PDF pilot for births and burials but I can't see anyway to order anything, including marriage certificates the old way anymore.

The website indicates you can but I can't find where it is possible.

Is it just me or have they removed the facility to order proper certificates now?

Scratch that. I can find a way to order but you can't search the index to get the relevant numbers, which is what I wanted to look at.

I don't think the GRO site has ever had marriage indexes for you to search. Until the first pilot for birth and death pdfs they didn't have indexes online for those records either.

You can get the reference numbers from FreeBMD, Ancestry or FMP.

Remember Ancestry's database isn't quite complete and also has some records showing for the wrong years (or even wrong decades?), unless they have corrected that and I've forgotten! FMP is probably better and FreeBMD is good up until the 1970s.

EDIT - Ancestry have corrected the swathe of errors that involve 1915:
