Between Elizabeth ROSE b. 1850 & James CRIPPS b. 1846 James had died by 1874, when Elizabeth remarried. I have found a death in 1870 that would fit.

Their daughter Janet/Janette/Jeanette CRIPPS was born in 1868

Thanks.

If you can find Elizabeth & Janette on the census in 1871 that would be a bonus too! Thanks :d

It's in the LMA records on ancestry - or at least the banns are. Sorry, got to go to bed! 26 Jul, 2 and 9 Aug 1868 St Saviour, Southwark. His name is given as James George Cripps.

Hmm, the marriage doesn't seem to be on the GRO indexes, so either they didn't go ahead with the marriage, or it was one of those that got lost on the way to the GRO!

The other people having their banns read the same weeks all got married, as the St Saviour marriage indexes are on the LMA records and so I can see their certs (and they are on the GRO indexes too). Nothing in the register for James and Emma though, as far as I've looked (not very far lol). Maybe someone objected?! (Elizabeth was a minor at the time, wasn't she?)

Ooo thanks Di that's her! I don't know why I couldn't find her before!

She says she is a widow which ties in nicely with the date I think he died, 1870. Maybe he died before they had a chance to marry? When she remarried she just called herself Elizabeth Cripps, widow, & didn't give a former name, just her father as David Rose. Strange that they went through the reading of all the banns if they didn't go through with the ceremony though. Maybe he became very ill shortly afterwards so they postponed their marriage then he died who knows?

Thanks everyone :)
