FamilySearch has a database called "Germany, Bavaria, Nuremberg Civil Registration, 1803-1886", although it actually includes some records more recent than 1886.
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/2660214

For instance, search for Maria Theresia Ottilia Friedrich and it comes back with her death on the 25th Jan 1887. There is a camera icon over in the right hand column, which I click to view the associated image. When I click it, it says "Visit Partner Site" and takes me to the Stadtarchiv Nürnberg website, where the image should be available. But try as I might, I can't figure out how to get to the image on there. The English language version of the website is still "under construction". I've tried using Google Chrome and letting it translate the pages into English, but I just seem to go round in circles. I did get to a catalogue search but it didn't seem to search for names in the civil registration index. I contacted FamilySearch for help, but they just said they can't help with external websites (despite it being a "partner site" with a click through from their site.) Can anyone see how to do it, please?

Is this the search page you tried?

https://online-service2.nuernberg.de/stadtarchiv/boxwech.FAU?sid=8C9101E920&dm=2&rpos=2

The left-hand tab is the simple search, and the right-hand tab is the advanced search.

I keep getting technical errors whichever one I try, so they're presumably having problems with the site.

Yes, I tried that search, Mary, but whichever option I chose, it didn't seem to be searching the civil registration records.

I've sent a message into Nuremberg Stadtarchiv via their contact form asking for help, but I'm not very good at German so I hope they understand it! I seem to remember when I contacted them once before, it took months to get any reply, so I hope it's quicker this time.

I've received a reply from Stadtarchiv Nürnberg confirming that the images are not available to view on their website and saying I could order a copy for about 25 Euros. Don't think I'll bother! I've passed the info on to FamilySearch in the hope that they will remove the supposed clickthrough link.
