I've been trying to access images online but when I click on the online circle it says to view the images online at a family history centre.

Something else I clicked on said to order the film at a family history centre.

Does that sound like some records are viewable online at the centre, without having to order films first?

I'm not sure if they have different ways of saying you need to order or not?

Dad is happy to go in an research for me but I need to know exactly what to tell him to do/say.

Also does anyone else know if we would have to book to use a computer or can you just walk in and use them? It's been years since I went to a centre.

Family Search seem to have changed access to some of their records. Some of the Cornwall records are no longer viewable, and I believe they are renegotiating their licence with the CRO (Record Office).

Interestingly enough, you can view some Cornish wills online, but it is rather hit and miss.

I'm afraid I can't answer your question about Family History Centres, Toni.

East Sussex records are no longer viewable online anywhere though West Sussex is still there.

Yes, Toni, if it says the images are viewable at a Family History Centre it means that they have been digitised and you would be able to view them on a computer at the Centre, whereas if it says to order the film, they haven't been digitised and made available yet. They are ending the film ordering system soon, so if there is a film you want to view you should order it quick!

Last time I went to our local Centre was years ago and I hadn't booked but was told I should have. I should think it would be worth contacting your dad's local one to check beforehand.

So there will be a lot of films no longer available to view? That sounds unfair

They are working on digitising them all but they won't have them all done by the time they end the film ordering system. Information here:

Thanks Kate.

I would love to have an LDS member number so I could access records online.
