Daniel Bown marries Maria Hunt Dec 1848 at St Luke's Finsbury.

I am trying to find them in the 1851 Census to determine if Daniel is "mine". There is a Daniel and Maria Bowns in Southwark but I have established that they are a different couple.

Daniel marries Maria's sister in 1852 but I think Maria is still alive at the time of the census. My Daniel was b 1816 Stroud, Gloucestershire.

Can anyone find them in 1851?

I should add that the sister, Mary Ann, dies soon after their marriage too and that Daniel marries yet another Mary in 1860 so the 1861 Census that they appear on is not any help!

But doesn't the 1861 census give Daniel's age and birthplace so you can see whether they match your Daniel? And does Daniel make his mark on all three marriages? Is he a widower in the 1860 marriage? Do his father's details match in all 3 (and with your Daniel's father?)

Yes, the 1861 one is my Daniel. And he's a widower in the marriage to Mary Curtis in 1860. Yes the father and occupation match on all three and now you're making me feel over pernickety :d! I just wanted to be certain that the Daniel Bown that married the Hunt sisters is the same one in 1861!

Not to mention that it's bugging me that I can't find him in 1851.....

And he's a widower in the marriage to Mary Curtis in 1860

Her name is Mary Davis on the parish reg entry!

I wondered if this is Maria's death? On the other thread on here about this family I said I had worked out Maria was born about 1822 (about ten years before her sister Mary Ann)

I can't find Daniel or Maria in 1851.

You probably already have George Hunt and family in 1851 but just in case:

They are from Gloucestershire at least. But Daniel and Maria aren't with them.

I can't find Daniel or Maria in 1851.

Apologies - her name was Mary Davis (another Bown married a Curtis!)

I agree that the Maria Bownd death is probably her - and I had completely forgotten that I had looked at all this before!

My apologies for doing it all again! My excuse is that the marriage record for Daniel and Mary Davis is on the new Wiltshire records on Ancestry and I found that Daniel was a widower which I hadn't been sure of before.

As we've all looked before for them I think I can safely say they're not there....

Thanks Kite, yes I had found that and I believe they originated in Bisley where the Bowns were in 1841 so it seems very likely that Daniel knew the Hunt family from there.

Well done finding her burial, Merry! I thought I'd tried all the possible variations on Bown but obviously not...

Typical that they'd moved within the few months between census and death.
