Quote from SP:

the birth index includes mother’s maiden name from 1929 (we are*adding this data*to earlier entries

How do I search for births after 1929 using mmn as part of the criteria?

Where did you find that quote on SP, Merry? I can see it on the National Records of Scotland site but I'm not sure whether the "Statutory Indexes of Births, Deaths and Marriages" which they are talking about are the same as the searchable indexes on SP. I don't think SP has ever had a facility to search statutory births by MMN.

Ok, I didn't realise I wasn't still on SP having clicked about 20 links to find it.

It's very frustrating knowing the info is there but not indexed, especially when mmn on death records can be so useful.

I agree. I've always wished that FreeBMD could get copies of the printed Scottish BMD indexes and transcribe them like they have done for the English and Welsh ones. But I guess they would need the Scottish GRO to say they're allowed to do it and I assume they wouldn't.
