I'm transcribing the will of Richard Pickard which begins on the lower part of the right-hand page. I have a couple of missing works on this first page....

Line 10 begins "Executrix hereafter named And for that temporal ........ wherewith it" what's the missing word?

Line 12 "I give and bequeath to my nephew John ???" any ideas for his surname?

I think the first word is Estate [with heavy calligraphic embellishment]

Thank you Jill. That makes complete sense!

Is the nephew called John Kempp?

Asa, That seems very possible. Most of the people mentioned mean nothing to me as yet! I will pencil in Kempp :D Thanks.

On to the next page where I have just reached the half way point and am going to have a break now. I have just one line where I'm stuck.... Line 10 begins "may receive....." I can read the odd word along this line but it's not making sense. It's about the poor of the parish receiving loaves and I think this part is to do with the conditions under which they might or might not be fed. The following line I'm OK with regarding disability etc.

There is a clearer example of his name on the next page, 13 lines from the bottom, but I'm still not sure what it is. Looks to begin with Gr though.

Back to the nephew, also see the seventh line from the bottom of that second page, Richard, who also has the same surname, though I still don't know what it is.

Oh, could it be Greenupp? There is a surname Greenough of which it could be a variant?

Actually, looking at ancestry, Greenup seems to be a surname in its own right.

Thanks Kate for the line 10. I only had one word wrong but it messed up the context.

I will have a look at the Greenup bit after I've peeled the potatoes for lunch!

Thanks again.

Oh, I couldn't wait that long. Yes, on page 2 it does look like Greenup! Thanks.

My next sticking point is still on page 2.... On the left-hand side there is an insertion of the word 'and' just over half way down the page and my problem comes two lines beneath that:

"her nephew Thomas Ames before named was a ???? of my ?????"

Thanks Kate.

:o and eight lines below the last problem... "to my niece Tabitha B????"

Baine, Bame or Banie?

Merry

Thanks, I thought it might be Baine. It would be nice if he had said exactly how all these nieces and nephews were related!

I'm a bit confused about the last couple of words on the page and how they link to the next page. I wanted it to say "after the death of my wife his aunt" but that's not it, is it?

kiterunner

my Executrix his Aunt

Oh, silly me!! lol Thanks very much. I managed to get to the end with no more problems.

Now there's just the part where I drive myself mad trying to work out my connection!

Tell me about it! I seem to be following an increasingly tenuous line of wills connected to John Cooper and getting nowhere.

Merry

lol!

I have another one to do which is a bit shorter but the writing/quality of the image is much worse. I think I'm going to leave that for another day!
