I have Grace Barks Warrener born March qtr 1901 in Nottingham, mothers maiden name was Barks.

I found her marriage in Nottingham in the Dec qtr of 1923 to Frank Hickling. Also her death and probate in 1965 in Nottingham.

They are on the 1939 register in Nottingham and her date of birth is listed as 28 Jan 1901

Up popped on Ancestry a Queensland immigration for 1919 for Grace Barks Warrener aged 20. Age is very slightly out but not much and it's a very unusual name.

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=WebQueenslandImmigration&h=134750&tid=&pid=&usePUB=true&usePUBJs=true&rhSource=2352

Is there any more information to be found? She must have returned to Nottingham at some point. I've never done Australian records before.

If you click through from that link to download the Excel file, her entry has "n/a" in the column for "Ship", so I don't think she actually went to Australia, just applied to go there.

Ah, Thanks. Possibly met her future husband and changed her mind.

I've just found Grace's brother Sydney and his wife and child on a passenger list going to Brisbane in 1913. Sydney and Grace's mother died in 1911 and their father remarried in 1913. Bit of a coincidence I think. Perhaps Grace decided to join them when she was old enough then for some reason changed her mind.

There's a Sydney Clemment Warrener marrying Ivy Maud Cooper in 1937, and a Sydney Warrener marrying Norma Smith in 1941. Both are in Qld.

Do you know the parents' names? I've found two Sydney's deaths.

There is a Henry Warrener (also n/a) in 1913. There is also Sydney, age 26, Polly 27 and William 3 coming in 1913. Polly becomes Mary on the register in Brisbane 1913.

Not sure how much you are interested in........
William Alfred Warrener married Marion Manderson in 1936
William Warrener married Vera Evelyn Baguley in 1931.

I'll put money on Vera being in my tree somewhere... :)

Libby, this is what I know.

William H Warrener 1863-1947 and Ellen nee Barks 1867-1911 were Sydney's parents.

Sydney doesn't have a middle name. He married Mary Ives in 1907. They had two children in the UK, William and Hilda. Hilda died as an infant. William was born 1908. They emigrated in 1913. I know nothing more that that.

I've checked the electoral rolls and found Syd andMary in Bundaberg until 1925 then in Warwick from 1930. If it's the same family (lots of Warreners around here), Sydney was a shedman ? in Bundaberg and a engineman in Warwick.

Here is Mary's death.

Looks like William did marry Vera Baguley......which means we are related. It's probably more than six degrees, but I'm falling asleep so I'll play tomorrow.

Let me know if I'm boring you with this. I know it's not Grace.

If Mary has a headstone, I'll get you a pic. Looks like William and Vera moved to Brisbane maybe after Mary died, but I've lost them after 1943. I'll go back to it tomorrow.

And of course there is another Sydney Warrener with a family in Warwick, as well as one in north Qld.

Libby, I don't want to worry you, but I am related to Marg by marriage. Does this mean I am related to you?

Mine is by marriage as well, so maybe we are safe............. although...

One day Lawrie and I were checking a small cemetery near Warwick, close to the area I found Syd, when we noticed nearly all the graves were Lawrie's family. Walked a little further and there were the headstones of a couple of my lot. Considering this place has about twenty houses, we decided we would try to unsee that and hurried out. :(

I have this much as fact.
Sydney, Mary (Polly) and William came to Qld in 1913.

Mary died in 1938. She was the daughter of William Henry Ives and Mary Hewitt (according to her death cert)

Sydney died in 1978. He was the son of William Henry Warrener and Ellen Barks.

William died in 1980. He was the son of Sydney Warrener and Mary Ann Ives.

I've posted the link to the death notice for Mary above, but don't know where the others died yet. Will search around.

I've found a marriage for a Sydney Warrener in 1941. Maybe your fellow remarried. This Sydney married Norma Smith.
I've found Sydney and Norma Warrener buried at Allora Cemetery. Allora is about 10 miles from Warwick (where your lot lived) and would come under the Warwick area.

If you Google 120 Pratten Street, Warwick Qld., you'll see the house they lived in from sometime between 1963 and 1972, probably until their deaths. In 1963 they lived in Glen Road. In 1972 and 1977 they were in Pratten St.

It's a lovely home.

There are other Warrener families in Warwick at the same time. One is a carpenter. I wonder if he built that Pratten St house. It is what is known as a "typical Queenslander".

Going on to William Warrener (Syd's son)....

William Warrener married Vera Evelyn Baguley in 1931. Vera Baguley came from Warwick (as did most of the Baguley lot). I'd put money on him being Syd's son, but you can order the cert or image. It would have both parties parents.

I have William and Vera in Brisbane in 1937 and 1943, then nothing, although I found a William and May in 1958, 63, 68, 72 and 80.

I cannot find deaths for Vera or May. Searching for deaths only goes to 1987, but if Vera died earlier, it should be somewhere. We know William died in Qld in 1980.

May Warrener died in 2001.

I'll see if I can find if she is your William's wife.

She's with a William...

That William looks like he could have died 1980. I'll go and have a good look for you next time I'm over there. My dad's ashes are there.

Blimey Libby.

I've only looked quickly at what you've found as I'm on my phone and have to go out shortly but will put laptop on when I get back and look properly.

Thanks

This is a random bit of info I found online. The woman Sydney Warrener married was Norma Smith, so Vera seemed to be using the hyphenated name.
I certainly can't find a death for Vera and it's looks like William married May someone.

The occupations I have for Sydney whilst in the UK were Apprentice Joiner and Railway Engine Stoker so that fits.

EDIT; I think it may be because the Trove site seems be unavailable at the moment.

Have now managed to read them.
