I have one will to look at:

D/ABW 57/40 Will of Lucy Chauncy of Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, widow 1640

So far as I can tell from the image, Lucy is only mentioning her children and (most remissly) not her grandchildren.

If she named one child of Grace and Richard Smyth, I would pay the sub, but I cannot see that she does. It looks as if she is simply doling out money for mourning rings to most of her children.

Can sks have a look at the free images to see if I've missed anything - if their eyesight is good enough.

Ooh, it's changed for the better since the last time I used that site.

The only name I can make out is Mary my daughter the wife of George Wallow(?).

Edit - d'oh, just realised there are images 2 and 3 to look at too, back in a minute...

Thanks, Kite.

I've just found daughter Lucy in the Visitation of London, married to Nathaniel Downe. Nathaniel's parents came from Barnstaple, and his grandfather from Torrington!!

So I think that it is no longer at all unreasonable that Grace Chauncy of Hertfordshire marries Richard Smyth of Torrington, Devon.

Whoever said they didn't move much in the Stuart period!
