Is shown as granddaughter of John Edwards and Louisa Skillings (both of whom have chequered pasts) on the 1871 and 1881 censuses.

At Louisa's inquest in 1883, Harriet seems to be referred to specifically as Louisa's granddaughter - and it is stated she has gone off with a navvy and is in Lynn.

There are these two entries on the GRO index:

BREEZE, GEORGIANA EDWARDS
GRO Reference: 1867 J Quarter in ERPINGHAM Volume 04B Page 72
BREEZE, HARRIET OTTY
GRO Reference: 1869 S Quarter in ERPINGHAM Volume 04B Page 62

There is this family in 1861:

But it seems more likely that Georgiana was renamed Harriet.

Hannah Breeze nee Otty is dead by 1871 and James has a whole new family in West Beckham. I can't find her birth, but she looks like the daughter of John and Hannah Otty.

Help!

Does anyone have any bright ideas as to who "my" Harriet is and what happens to her after 1883? She should be giving a birthplace of Edgefield

When was she born, Phoenix?

Edit - Found it now, c. 1868 according to the 1881 Census.

There is a Mary Ann Breeze, MMN Otty, birth registered Apr-Jun 1873 Erpingham district.

(Sorry, I know she isn't Harriet, but possibly a sister?)

Harriet Georgiane Breeze baptised 3 Jun 1867 Edgefield, Norfolk, parents George and Elizabeth, according to FamilySearch. So Harriet would indeed be Georgiana who was born 1867, MMN Edwards, and I guess we can forget about that Otty family?

On the 1851 census John and Louisa Edwards have a daughter Elizabeth age 9 (born Edgefield) who must be Harriet's mother, but I haven't found a marriage for her to a George Breeze yet.

Oh, he's down as George Breese on the marriage index. Likely marriage to Elizabeth Edwards 1866 Erpingham district.

Now trying to find something to prove whether he was Elizabeth's husband.

doesn't help with the question of whether her father died before she was born.

Thanks Kite. No wonder I couldn't find her later. What a sad end.
So she was John's granddaughter, rather than Louisa's.
And what's the bet pregnant? Her aunt died at a similar age, following childbirth.
