In 1871 it says Shirnewton for George and the sub-registration district where they are living is called Shire Newton, so I guess it's there?

O, if I google it's all one word - Shirenewton, just west of Chepstow in Monmouthshire.

Oh well if thats the case that would fit in with the 1861 Census that says Chepstow thanks Merry

That's a pity Babs

I have scanned all of my certs so I only have to view them on the computer now.
Didn't you make a note on your tree program about his father?

Babs, you've posted about him on other forums before and you said the marriage cert gave his father as John Baker, general labourer. And the witnesses were his bride's parents.

Surely the George in 1861 and the one in 1871 have different parents???

The two I was looking at both had dad as Alfred from Alveston, Gloucestershire and mum Emma from erm....somewhere else in Gloucestershire! I've forgotten now. All the children matched except Mark who died between 1861 and 1871.
