I have a note which says "Stibbard PR's on FamilySearch only start at 1733 and the AT's jump from 1731 to 1737 so Peter's baptism is probably in the missing years there." Need to check whether this is still the case.

Ooh, there are some Withers of Stibbard wills in the PCC wills on ancestry from around the right time - must look at them tomorrow!

Those wills didn't help as neither of them mentions Peter. There are quite a few public trees on ancestry which have Peter as the son of Thomas Withers who died in 1741 and his wife Mary nee Priest who died in 1771, but none of them seems to have anything to prove it.

Norfolk Record Office has the wills of a Peter Withers, oatmeal maker of Stibbard, 1728, and Thomas Withers, oatmeal maker of Stibbard, 1743, so they could possibly be my Peter's grandfather and father. Edit - as far as I can make out from FamilySearch's Norwich Consistory Court files they have not filmed any 1728 wills.

I have managed to find the will of Thomas Withers, oatmeal maker, of Stibbard, 1743, on FamilySearch! The will was signed on the 20th Apr 1736 and mentions Peter as his youngest child, and Mary as his wife, so finally I do have the names of Peter's parents!

If Mary really died in 1771, Peter and his siblings had to wait a long time for their inheritances as Thomas's will left everything to her until her death and then gave the eldest son three years after that to pay the rest of them their shares.
