I's not great for giving variable spellings, so if the dates cross over it can be better to search on Ancestry and then when you know what spelling you want use that on the Irish site for a specific entry. Also middle names are not indexed for the civil records on that site, but they are on Ancestry (if on the entry, obviously!) so another situation where looking at Ancestry first may be helpful.
