Hello all,
I am looking for any further info on James Brunner, maybe passenger lists or parents?
He was born appx 1821 Austria? died 1900
he was a Wesleyan minister in Nottinghamshire.
He married Ann Tatham daughter of The Rev Daniel Strickland Tatham at Derbyshire in 1851
They had i believe 2 children
Adolphe Brunner b 1852 Paris d 1882 IOW
James Brunner b 1865 Nottingham d 1913 Nottingham

There is mention of him being a missionary to the Jews in Paris so i assume he traveled & that is why i can only see him on the 1881/91 census's. His grandson Christopher Tatham Brunner was noteworthy as was his wife Augusta J Bonnard whom studied under Sigmund Freud.
Thanks
Jackie

If you order a copy of his marriage certificate, it should give you his father's name and occupation.

His birthplace on the 1881 census looks like Brody, Austria, which is apparently now in Ukraine and had a significant Jewish community. There is some information on here:

Here is a document relating to his naturalisation on ancestry, in the UK Aliens Entry Books 1794-1921, which have not been indexed by name yet (I found it by browsing through till I found 30 Aug 1856 and then browsing back from there, so there may be more to find in there):

I wonder whether this could be a relative of his?

Thank you so much, i shall have a look. Where do you thinka birth certificate for Adolphe would be located? Though born in Paris his father is Austrian. Though there is no proof saying Adolphe is his i am fairly sure he is. Here is a link to a donation that the brother gave of his books, but they have him down as his son, which he clearly can't be, but it is the link between them.

This shows that his birth was registered in Paris, in the old second arrondissement, and that his date of birth was 31 Jan 1852, but I'm not sure offhand whether there is more to find online. I will have to see. I think I have only looked at the post-1860 Paris records before.

http://canadp-archivesenligne.paris.fr/archives_etat_civil/avant_1860_fichiers_etat_civil_reconstitue/fecr_visu_img.php?registre=V3E_N_0350&type=ECRF&&bdd_en_cours=etat_civil_rec_fichiers&vue_tranche_debut=AD075ER_5MI20761_01334_C&vue_tranche_fin=AD075ER_5MI20761_01384_C&ref_histo=44898&cote=V3E/N%20350

(you will need to navigate to image number 31)

Edit - I think the information on the site says that the pre-1860 birth registrations were damaged or destroyed in a fire, and they are in the process of restoring some of them, and that if you find a record listed, like the above, you can view the birth registration on microfilm in the reading room at the Paris Archives.

On Adolphe's marriage certificate, his father is James Brunner, occupation pasteur, which translates as pastor:
