... I quite understand, but I'm revisiting my Atkinsons of Holborn after
becoming hopelessly stuck on 4xg/grandparents Thomas & Mary Ann.
I've hesitated for some time over posting this as I've received so much help
here on this family, but I've decided to give it one last shot. I wouldn't expect
anyone to plough through the numerous threads, so I've picked out what I
hope are the relevant points to illustrate my problem.
Thomas Atkinson & Mary Ann ? were probably married about 1786/7 as their
first child was baptised 1788.I have no bap. for Thomas & no m for the
couple.
In 1788 they were in Dean St, Holborn & in 1794 in nearby Hand Court.
Their children were Christiana bap 1788 (my 3xg/grandmother), Maria Ann
bap 1790, Thomas bap 1792 & James bap 1794. There is another son,
Samuel Hughes Atkinson, b 1799, no bap found, whose marriage cert shows
Samuel Atkinson, tailor,as his father but this may be a slip of the pen unless
Thomas died early & Mary Ann m another Atkinson. Samuel Hughes's 1850 will
makes bequests to sister Christiana & brother James. I don't know what
happened to siblings Maria Ann & Thomas.
All I know about Mary Ann is that she was b about 1769 in Marylebone &
was a widow when she married Abraham Andrews in 1829. She d in 1854.
I have a theory that her maiden name may have been Hughes - a name
passed on by later generations - but then why wait till 3rd son's birth to
use it?
So, I have very little to go on in the search for the origins of Thomas & Mary
Ann - a possible maiden name for her & profession for him with very little in
between. I'd appreciate any advice please, including confirmation that the
info is too vague & this may be a hopeless case.
