This is the main database:
UK & Ireland Nursing Registers 1898-1968 (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=60423)
There are also a couple of smaller databases:
UK & Ireland Queen's Nursing Institute Roll of Nurses 1891-1931 (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=61098)
Scotland Nursing Applications 1921-1945 (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=9300)
What sort of information does the UK & Ireland Nursing Register contain please? My aunt is on it, but my Ancestry sub has lapsed now.
My aunt is in there too!. For her entry there are five columns headed up:
Reg. No. ..Name ...Permanent Address....Date and Place of Registration....Qualifications
For my aunt the address is where she was living immediately after she qualified; in my grandparents home. The date and place of registration for her is 28 Mar 1947, London and her qualifications: General Infirmary Salisbury, 1944-1947. By Examination.
I already knew my aunt passed her first set of exams in 1947 having trained at Salisbury.
Thankyou, I expect I'll take out a month's sub once Ancestry put those Oxfordshire records on in October (?) so I'll take a look then - her birthday's in October so I'll be able to give her a copy.

I have let my ancestry sub lapse. I wonder if someone could kindly find my Aunt. Kathleen Tutt born in 1900. I think she qualified probably about 1920 in Hammersmith but I am not completely sure.
There are half a dozen or so entries for this woman:
Name:
Kathleen Mary Tutt
Residence Year:
1928
Residence Place:
London, N.4
Registration Date:
18 Dec 1925
Publisher:
General Nursing Council for England & Wales
#she was living at 25 Hermitage Rad, Finsbury Park for this first one. If she is the right person I can type the entries out in full.

Thanks Merry. I am not sure if that is the right woman. I don't know much about her. The family story is that she was illegitimate and grew up in a children's home which she tried to keep quiet. I Know when she married in 1939 she was a sister at Hammersmith hospital accident and emergency department.
Is this her?
Births Jun 1900
Tutt Kathleen Marian W. Ashford 2a 848
I couldn't find a marriage in 1939, but I thought I found the above lady on the 1939 register, single b 22 Mar 1900 occ Clerk At Sanatorium and living in Ashford Kent with Mary Tutt b 30 May 1868 widow (her mother?). However, I wasn't convinced that was the right person.
EDIT- that can't be the right person if your relative married, as the above Kathleen died in unmarried in 1974 (matching dob given at death)
The Kathleen Mary I posted details for in #8 probably isn't yours as her entries in the nursing register go up to the mid-1940s, so after your aunt married.
I couldn't find anyone who fitted the story on the 1901/11 census either or another birth reg in 1900 :o

I am sorry I did not check the marriage it was 1940 Brentford to Donovan Horne. I don't have a middle name for her. I have seen the Ashford birth but I have nothing to confirm it and if she was a clerk in 1939 it seems unlikely to be her. Thanks for looking.
The Ashford birth lady can't be her as she didn't marry (well, unless she divorced and changed her name back perhaps?)
I can't find a birth or death for her or her husband. If she was your aunt would she not be with one or more of your grandparents in 1901 and 1911? I guess it's not that simple!
Here's her husband to be (toy boy!) in Croydon in 1939:
Donovan E Horne 27 Jan 1914 Pharmacist

Her husband was my mother's brother. I have full details for him and deaths for both of them. I just wondered if the nursing register had any details to identify her. It is not important just idle curiosity.
OK, well I cant find anything else on the nursing register which seems very odd.
