Jenny, when were they alive?
When was their son/daughter baptised from whom you are descended?

FMP has this:

First name(s) Daniel
Last name Cole
Birth year -
Marriage year 1729
Spouse's first name(s) Marth
Spouse's last name Sherman
Place Langham
County Essex
Country England
Source Boyd's marriage index, 1538-1850
Record set England, Boyd's marriage indexes, 1538-1850

I know it is "Marth" but as there is no image I can't verify what it says.
As it is the parish you mentioned I thought I'd better record it for you.

Is this the family?

I wonder if the marriage I found was of an earlier generation of this Daniel Cole.

Also benefiting from the will were Jno, nephew, and Elizabeth, niece and Martha, his sister. So from the marriage found above.

Elizabeth, Jenny has a 3xG thread about a Martha Cole who married in 1799, but no baptism record for her on that thread.

Sorry, forgot to put on the date. Martha was baptised 25 Feb 1775 in Langham. I got access to SEAX last night and found some siblings, but no marriage for Daniel and Mary. The earliest baptism is 1773. It is the same family mentioned in the RootsWeb link and I also followed Wrinch Cole (the only son) through to his death in 1859.

Thank you, Elizabeth, for your information - it's most helpful and a chance to find out more. I'll check it all out!

A tree on Ancestry has this Daniel Cole marrying Mary Thorpe.

There aren't any sources, so a cautious approach is required!

I don't know whether the Mary Thorpe marriage can be trusted.

Name: Daniel Cole
Gender: Male
Event Type: Marriage
Marriage Date: 21 Feb 1780
Marriage Place: Langham, Northamptonshire, England
Spouse: Mary Thorpe
Parish as it Appears: Langham

It looks like they are muddling their Langhams, of which there are lots!

Also, you need an earlier marriage.

Thank you Elizabeth. I'm off to look at the non conformist records to see if I can find anything else. I have about six hours left of SEAX access! I agree about the other marriage - very unlikely to be mine.

I appreciate your help.

Unfortunately, non conformist records are not on SEAX, so I'll continue to look through the parish registers. I don't have Ancestry, but it is available at my local library and I'll also look there on my next visit.
