I am interested in Henry (Heinrich?) Gerhold, father of Cericaus Gerhold so fl c 1823 in Hessen, Germany.

I think he was closely related to Johann Jost Gerhold, father of Johan Herman Gerhold fl 1808 in Hessen Germany.

I can read it in the sense that I can transcribe it (slowly) in German and then translate it but I have difficulty doing both at the same time, because I'm not very used to deciphering that font. At first glance I think it could be a transcription of the will of the widow of Salomon Moses Fried of Naumburg, and her maiden name is Abraham, but I will have to look at it properly later or tomorrow.

If you copy and paste the transcription above into Google translate it will give you some idea at least. I think the Rt. could be an abbreviation for Rute which was the German version of our old "Rod" measurement but not figured out what Ack. is yet.

Ack. is probably Acker - the German term for acre. My dictionary says this varies between 2,200 and 6,500 square meters!

Acker can also mean a ploughed or cultivated field.

If you're talking about just entering the correct characters on your keyboard, then what works for me, Kate, is to drop the text without accents into the Google translate box, at which point it asks:

Did you mean: Grundstücke
I then copy and paste the accented word back into the document or post I'm working on.

Of course this will not work unless the text you've offered to Google is close enough to correct that the computer can recognize what it should be, but I find it useful about 99 percent of the time. Even when I know perfectly well where the accents should be and how to get them from the Character Map, this is often a lot faster and easier.

My German - English dictionary has Instanz = authority, but yes, looks about right. So it isn't her will or estate but something to do with her deceased husband.
