I'm trying to work out the name of my 7xG-grandmother.

On 8th February 1697-8 William Slingsby of Bulkington, Warwickshire married Mary Checkland at Holy Trinity, Coventry.

The marriage register doesn't show their marital statuses, but the Lichfield marriage bonds/allegations show Mary as a widow.

On 21st April 1691 Mary ? (presumably the Mary who married William Slingsby) married Joseph Checkeland at Bulkington, Warwickshire:

(last two lines of the left-hand column).

Ancestry hasn't transcribed her surname (and has transcribed Joseph's surname as Richard).

I think her surname might be Muston, which would be convenient, as two Slingsby in-laws were related to the Muston family, but I'm not sure that's actually what it says.

Any ideas?

FS have actually transcribed it twice, and the second transcription is Muston. I was sure I'd seen it somewhere, but it took me a while to find it. I can't tell whether both transcriptions come from the PRs or one is from the BTs.

Thanks for posting the FMP transcription; I didn't realise they had Warks marriages.

Ah, I've found the film number for the second FS transcription (Muston) now, and it's taken from the BTs, so that makes me more confident that Muston may be right.

I have the PRs on loan at my local FS centre, so I'll go and check it out when I can.

Sorry Kite, not ignoring you, I've only just seen your message. I think Muston is more likely on balance, although there seems to be either another word or a crossing out after it (and before "were married").

By the way, I've never been able to view images on FamilySearch, even when they're available. Is anyone else having the same problem?

I can view the image on FamilySearch but it is no clearer than the one on ancestry. You may need to use a different browser, Mary, and of course make sure you are logged in.

I've tried logging in, but it didn't help. I've tried 3 different browsers (Firefox, Opera and IE), but no joy - I just see a blank page where the image should be.

Are your browsers up-to-date versions, Mary?

Bulkington has an OPC listed on the Warwickshire OPC website, so you could always contact him and ask him to look at the BT's?

I'll double-check, but I think two of them are; I never use IE normally, so it probably isn't.

Ah, I'll try that, thanks!
