My direct ancestor - who married John Merrick b 1787
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NPL2-9ZC
I have found a marriage of Samuel Ferrar to Sarah Stephens in Sarnsfield - pretty certain these are Sarah Ferrar parents - if I am right these are my direct ancestors too
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N2DT-FP2
a Sarah Stephens baptism in Sarnsfield - 1747 -
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JQ1K-33X
BUT - this would make Sarah Stephens 32 on her wedding day ??...a little old
so - could any members with time on their hands have a look please and tell me whether they would add the above finds if it was their tree - or hold fire - especially on Richard and Joan Stephens ??....I am tempted to add them but need advice first
thanks
Allan

Can someone explain what Unitary Authority means please ?
could this be Richard Stephens - the father of Sarah ?

There's no image on ancestry for the Ferrar-Stephens marriage, but there is a bit more in this transcription:
Samuel Ferrar, Widower, and Sarah Stephens, Spinster, by Banns, 30 Jul 1779. Witnesses--Richard Stephens, Ann Jones.
Book: Marriages 1755--1836. (Marriage)
Collection: Herefordshire: Sarnesfield - Parish Registers, 1660-1897
So Sarah was a spinster and Samuel a widower.
Have you any burial info for either of them?
Do you know how many children Sarah had?

I can only find the 1 child for Richard and Sarah - the 1747 birth of Sarah Stephens
when Sarah married Samuel Ferrar she had 4 children
Benjamin Ferrar 1780
Ann 1783-84
Samuel 1785
Sarah Ferrar 1789 my direct ancestor..
the only burial I could find was the one in my 2nd post
Thanks Merry ....xx
Don't you think there's some significance in that Richard Stephens is the name on one of the witnesses at the marriage?
Sarah married Samuel Ferrar she had 4 children
Benjamin Ferrar 1780
Ann 1783-84
Samuel 1785
Sarah Ferrar 1789 my direct ancestor..
So she would have been 42 when she had her last known child (or a bit older if she wasn't a baby when she was baptised). Seems reasonable - she might have had more is she had been younger.

This is the transcription on ancestry of the John Merrick / Sarah Ferrar marriage, just to confirm there is a Stephens connection:
18 May 1815 John Merrick, Bachelor, of Norton Canon, and Sarah Ferrar, spinster. Witnesses--Thomas Ferrar, Eleanor Stephens. Lic.
Book: Marriages 1813--1836. (Marriage)
Collection: Herefordshire: Sarnesfield - Parish Registers, 1660-1897
where did you see that please Merry ??

Allan - my great grandfather & his brother both married ladies over 30, so
perhaps it wasn't all that unusual.
