Where is Harold?

A few years before she died, Mum sister sent me a packet of photographs, in case I could identify them.

One was a happy couple's marriage, in Guildford in the 1920s.

I looked and looked, but could identify nobody in the group photograph.

Now, trawling 1939 for every last cousin, I have found a potential couple. They had one daughter, now dead: Daphne Anscombe b 21 May 1923.

I cannot find anyone interested in Daphne or her parents to test my theory.

But another question arises. Harold Anscombe married Daisy Blunden in 1924. Daphne was illegitimate and had her birth re-registered in September 1939.

No trace of Harold. I can spot a very good reason why he might not be at home, but can anyone see him? He was born 1902 in Surrey.

If he was in the forces at the date of the 1939 Register then he won't be included. If you had his exact date of birth we could look for possible mistranscriptions.

That's true, but he was a caretaker in his late thirties - not the most obvious candidate for the military. I'd not been looking for him until yesterday, when I realised that he and elder brother Harry were different people.
