Could anyone please point me in the direction of the WW2 record for the

above? For those who kindly helped with the WW1 record of his Lovelock

ancestor a couple of weeks ago only to find it was in fact his brother Charles

who had the relevant history, we know a bit more about Donald, 21.11.08 -

24.4.52.

He was a carpenter, recruited around 1941, probably in the Herts area &

worked on the building of airfields. He was in the 8th Army Royal Artillery &

served in Italy. He may also have been in Sicily.

Are there any records my friend could access without subscription to a site?

WW2 records don't tend to be available online because of the fact that many people who served in the war are still alive. The records of army personnel who died more than 25 years ago can be obtained from the MOD for £30:

Thanks for that Kite. He was my friend's father & died tragically at the age of

forty three when he fell from a roof at work. I think my friend would like to

have as much info as possible to pass on to his children as they never knew

their grandfather.

Bear in mind that you pay £30 regardless of which and how many documents the MoD possess. It could be a whole trove of stuff, but on the other hand it may only be two or three bits of paper.

Thanks James - yes, I did see that & I've passed the link info onto my friend. He doesn't

mind paying if he thinks its worth it on reading what may be available. He was twelve

when his father died & regrets not talking to him about his war experiences.
