I am interested in any kind of family tree connecting two Arthurs and two Georges, plus a Christopher, to each other, and to Jane Farwell, and/or to Robert Farwell.

In the 100 years from 1756 to 1855, people with these names were mayors of Totnes in 17 of those years.

Richard Marshall was mayor in 1811 and 1822, and was the husband of Jane Farwell.

Robert Farwell was a partner in the local bank "Wise, Farwell, Baker and Bentall" which failed in 1841.

Some Bentalls were also mayors of Totnes in 7 of those 100 years, and Kit may be interested that 'William Chadder' is named as the mayor in 1749 and 1760 (whether the same one or father and son I am not sure).

The will of an Arthur Farwell proved at the PCC in 1809 (written in 1807) mentions his wife Jane, son Christopher, son Arthur, clerk, deceased (who had a wife Elizabeth Trist and children Arthur, Susan, Jane, and John), son George, daughter Jane Marshall, wife of Richard Marshall, and niece Harriett Luscombe (she is mentioned in the first codicil).

You can read it on ancestry:

I have seen that before but wasn't sure if William Chadder was part of my Chadders or not.
