I have a Samuel Marsh who died in 1886 aged 81 in Worksop and although I am convinced I know where he is probably buried I would like you to help me confirm it.

Many Thanks

Do you have his date of death, Fi? Or at least the quarter in which he died? If so then I can go and look at the various Worksop parish registers next week and see if I can find the burial - oh, and tell me which one you think he is buried at so I can check that one first!

Did he die in Worksop or Whitwell or somewhere else?

Whitwell is in Derbyshire (as I'm sure you know!) Kite.

Oh yes, I didn't realise he might not have died in Worksop, Merry.

hhmm, well you seem to have the right one. The death is registered as March 1886 in district Worksop on Freebmd. I have not ordered the death cert yet. The 1881 census mentions Whitwell but also Worksop Union.

From Freebmd: The district Worksop spans the boundaries of the counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and West Riding of Yorkshire.

Civil Parish of Whitwell Derbyshire which was in Worksop District (Carburton subdistrict) and also in Worksop Union Rural Sanitary District.

If his son was still there in 1891 then I would think the chances are Samuel died there.

He was living with his son (Henry Marsh and family) on the 1881 census. Rg11/3309

Bother. In 1891 Henry and Grace are living in Worksop and have various children - the last one born in Whitwell is aged 8 and the next one, born Worksop is aged 4 (reg Q4 1886), so if Samuel died in their household it might easily have not been in Whitwell.

If you find he is buried in Worksop, I could have a look for the grave. If it was Whitwell, you could speak to Barbara Dodds

I hope it is Worksop. Thank you everyone.

Barbara Dodds helped with Worksop burials before. I am grateful to anyone who can help. I tried before to get to a Great Great grandfather grave and met a lovely priest in the process. I have since discovered from the churches website that he has died. I was so sad. I never got to the grave of the Great x Grandfather for access reasons but I will remember the day I tried forever.

In 1891 Henry and Grace were living in Worksop, as I said previously. Just had another look and they were in the Parish of St Mary (Priory) which is covered by the NBI, BUT I cannot find my CDs! I was thinking it may be more likely they moved after Samuel's death, but still worth checking, if anyone else is more organaised than me!! Unfortunately Whitwell doesn't seem to be covered by the NBI.

Doh, forget that - the NBI is on FMP isn't it? No sign of a burial on there.....does that make it more likely to be Whitwell?

I checked Worksop Priory (aka St Mary) and he wasn't buried there.

Thank you for searching Kiterunner. What a shame he was not there. That is exactly where I wanted him to be buried.

The search continues.

Thanks again
